<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fingerprint collecting device and a fingerprint collecting method which collect fingerprint images in a wide range with high accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: A fingerprint collecting device has an imaging sensor unit 111; a reference optical system 112; first to third optical systems 113a-113c; an outline detecting portion; an extracting portion; and an image uniting portion. The imaging sensor unit 111 picks up an optical image formed on a light-receiving surface. The reference optical system 112 images a reference optical image of fingers in a reference area on the light-receiving surface. The first to third optical systems 113a-113c image first to third optical images in first to third areas. The outline detecting portion detects a plane surface outline. The extracting portion extracts a reference picked up image and a part image which is an image of a part of the first picked up image, on the basis of the plane surface outline.
