摘要 <p>A circuit breaker comprises an arcing chamber 706 containing a liquid 710 and two electrical contacts 702; a contact actuator 716; and means 712 for injecting gas into the liquid to form a supercavitation bubble around each of the contacts . When actuator 716 forces the contacts to separate and move through the liquid an arc 728 forms between them and is extinguished. A magnetic field from a DC or AC electromagnet 722 may force the arc to move through the liquid, towards an arc chute 718 having conducting plates 720 to split the arc or ceramic plates to stretch the arc, and may be switched off after the arc is extinguished. The gas can be injected continuously or while the contacts separate and along the path of the contacts. The super-cavitation bubble may completely surround each contact and reduce the drag coefficient, including friction, of the liquid. The breaker may be used for a high voltage DC (HVDC) or AC circuit and have sensors to test the circuit after the contacts are opened for persistent conditions, to prevent re-closure. The liquid may be an organofluorine such as fluorocarbon and the gas may be air, steam, a fluoromethane or an inert gas.</p>
