摘要 A system and methodology that facilitates Short Message Service (SMS) delivery in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) environment is provided. In particular, an interface is provided, which enables a Mobility Management Entity (MME) to communicate directly with a Short Message Service Center (SMSC) to facilitate delivery of SMS in an evolved packet core (EPC). In one aspect, the interface can be most any SS7-based interface, such as a Gd interface. In another aspect, the interface can be an IP based (e.g., SS7 over IP) interface. Accordingly, the MME can utilize the interface to establish direct communication with the SMSC, without employing intermediate network elements (e.g., mobile switching centers).

A system, comprising: a memory to store computer-executable instructions; and a processor of a short message service center device deployed within an internet protocol-based telecommunication network and is communicatively coupled to a mobility management entity device by employing a signaling system number 7 over internet protocol, wherein the processor is communicatively coupled to the memory and facilitates execution of the computer-executable instructions to perform operations comprising: receiving text message data by the short message service center device from the mobility management entity device by employing the signaling system number 7 over internet protocol, independent of utilization of an intermediate network device to facilitate receipt of the text message data, and conforming the text message data to another protocol supported by the short message service center device.
