a nonvolatile memory device including a plurality of memory blocks; and a memory controller configured to perform an incremental merge operation in response to a write command, wherein the memory controller adjusts a merge size or a merge execution time adaptively in accordance with a number of free blocks and write pattern of write-requested data.
