Systems and methods are described for providing interactive issue creation and management for use in project management processes. The system provides users with mechanisms for creating fully-featured, easy-to-identify, and highly legible issues, with a visual mechanism for communicating issue information between the parties involved in the project management process, thereby resulting in improved tracking to ensure issues are appropriately addressed and timely resolved, saving time and money.

a communication interface; a memory; an issue markup database; an issue template database comprising field inspection issue templates; and a processor in communication with the memory, the scanning interface, and the communication interface; the memory comprising:
an issue management module for execution by the processor, the issue management module configured to:
receive, through the communication interface, a template selection from a field computing device for a field inspection;retrieve a selected field inspection issue template from the issue template database corresponding to the template selection;communicate the selected field inspection issue template through the communication interface to the field computing device;receive, from the field computing device through the communication interface, an issue markup corresponding to the selected field inspection issue template, the issue markup corresponding to a particular project drawing under inspection during the field inspection; anda layer module for execution by the processor, the layer module configured configure to store the issue markup as a separate layer of the project drawing in the issue markup database.
