A method for rendering one or more user interface elements on a display screen of a device is disclosed. The method includes receiving a request for rendering a first user interface element without an orientation preference, and identifying a type of the device. The method also includes, in accordance with a determination that the type of the device is a first device type corresponding to television devices and the first user interface element corresponds to a first user interface element type, rendering the first user interface element as a vertical user interface element in a first display region of the display screen.

at a computer system coupled with the device, the computer system comprising one or more processors and memory storing one or more portable programs, for execution by the one or more processors, for rendering the one or more user interface elements on the display screen, the method comprising:
receiving a request for rendering a first user interface element without an orientation preference;identifying a type of the device; andin accordance with a determination that the first user interface element corresponds to a first user interface element type and the type of the device is a second device type corresponding to one or more devices other than a first device type corresponding to television devices, rendering the first user interface element as a horizontal user interface element in a first display region of the display screen.
