A rotary disc filter device includes a rotary drum and one or more disc-shaped filter members secured about the drum. Each disc-shaped filter member includes a filter and a filter support comprising a series of modules. The modules each include a base that is secured to the rotary drum and a support arm projecting outwardly from the base. The modules are interconnected and disposed around the rotary drum.

1. A rotary disc filter comprising:
a rotary drum having an inlet for receiving liquid to be filtered and a surface having a plurality of openings; a drive for rotatively driving the rotary drum; a series of disc-shaped filter members disposed around the drum and extending outwardly therefrom, each disc-shaped filter member being rotatable with the drum; each disc-shaped filter member including a modular filter support having a series of interchangeable plastic modules; each plastic module of the filter support including a support that projects outwardly relative to the drum; each plastic module including at least two spaced apart grooves wherein at least a portion of the grooves extend along the support of the module; a plurality of filter segments secured in the grooves of the plastic modules with each filter segment secured in the grooves of two adjacent modules; and wherein compartments are formed around each filter support for receiving and holding the liquid with each compartment, in part at least, being defined by two adjacent plastic modules and two filter segments secured in the grooves of the two adjacent plastic modules.
