Disclosed in the present invention which relates to the technical field of communications are an optical transmitter, a transmission method, an optical receiver, and a reception method are provided by the present invention. When a first laser of N lasers switches to an idle second laser of M lasers, the wavelength of a wavelength selectivity optics element to which the first laser is coupled is adjusted from a first wavelength to a second wavelength, and the second wavelength is different from the N wavelengths. Similarly, when a first optical receiver of N optical receivers switches to an idle second optical receiver of M optical receivers, the wavelength of a wavelength selectivity optics element to which the first optical receiver is coupled is adjusted from a first wavelength to a second wavelength, and the second wavelength is different from the N wavelengths. By the above technical solution, the embodiments of the present invention reduce the complexity of the optical transmitter and the optical receiver, decrease extra power loss, and improve the output optical power.
