The present invention relates to a radar apparatus and a power control method thereof. The radar apparatus comprises: an antenna part transmitting a radar signal to surroundings and receiving a signal reflected from a target; a radio frequency (RF) part generating the transmitted signal, converting each frequency of the transmitted signal and the received signal, and amplifying the received signal; a signal processing part generating a radar signal and performing a signal process to a received RF signal; and a control part detecting if the target exists by using the received signal undergone the signal process by the signal process part and when the target is not detected, changing a driving cycle of the RF part to reduce power consumption. When the target is not detected, the driving cycle of the RF part is increased, and as a time period where the target is not detected becomes longer, an off-time of the RF part is increased, thereby minimizing power consumption of the radar apparatus. |
