PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods for treatment of an altered α-synuclein function.SOLUTION: Compositions and methods are provided for treating a disorder characterized by α-synuclein dysfunction and/or altered lipid metabolism. The present invention describes methods of modulating the α-synuclein function, lipid metabolism and lysosomal storage by using agents that modulate the α-synuclein function, lysosomal storage and lipid metabolism, in particular sphingoglycolipid metabolism. The present invention describes methods of modulating α-synuclein and lipid metabolism for treating a disease.
