The present invention relates to methods and devices for evaluating bone conditions based on images. In particular, devices, methods and algorithms are provided that allow for the accurate and reliable evaluation of bone structure from x-ray images.

1. A method of evaluating a bone condition in a subject comprising:
(a) analyzing, using a computer system, an image of a bone of the subject; (b) deriving quantitative information on bone structure from a set of regions of interest (ROI) on the image, where in the set of ROI is automatically placed on the image; and (c) determining the bone condition based on the quantitative information.
