A user equipment handover method and a base station, relating to communications technology. When a target base station determines that a UE requires handing over from a source base station to a target base station and the handover is between a unicast bearer and a multicast bearer, because data packet transmission progress in the target bearer may be behind data packet transmission progress in the original bearer, the target base station receives data packets sent by the original bearer and by the target bearer at the same time; when it is determined that data packet reception progress of the target base station on the original bearer is ahead of or synchronous with data packet reception progress of the target base station on the target bearer, the UE is handed over to the target bearer, thereby improving service continuity of the UE in the handover process. |
