A fifth-wheel mounting for a trailer has rollers 8 for engaging the tractor ramp rails and a roller 11 for engaging between the rails and carries side plates 12 to which are pivotally secured at 13 leg members 14 carrying road wheels 15 arranged vertically beneath the turntable. To the leg members 14 are pivotally connected at 23 strut members 19 the upper ends of which engage hook members 21 under the action of tension springs 22. When backing the tractor under the trailer the rollers 8 engage the ramp rails on the tractor and auxiliary rollers carried by the ramps engage the struts 19 to move them clear of the hooks 21 thereby allowing the leg members 14 to be moved rearwardly by the auxiliary rollers engaging their forward edges.
