742,218. Bearings &c. BUSKE, A. Nov. 6, 1953 [Nov. 7, 1952], No. 30842/53. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXII] A method of forming permanent wedgeshaped lubricating pockets 4 in a bearing surface comprises providing hollows or apertures 2 in the bearing behind the bearing surface at the points where the lubricating pockets are to be produced, and permanently deforming the material of the bearing surface by the application of pressure. The pressure may be applied by rigid or elastic or plastic means or by means of a liquid or gas under pressure. As shown in Fig. 2, a rubber plug 5, introduced into the cylindrical bore of the bearing 1 after it has been finally turned, is compressed by a ram 6 thus permanently deforming the zones 4. A thrust bearing ring 16 provided with feet 17, Fig. 6, is permanently deformed by a ram 20, Fig. 8, acting on an intermediate rubber disc 19. Alternatively the supporting feet are incorporated in the bearing support. A bearing journal comprising a sleeve 68 Fig. 19, secured to a shaft 67 having longitudinal cavities 71 is permanently deformed by a ram 74 acting on the end of a rubber ring 73 located between the sleeve 68 and a supporting body 72. |
