724,265. Shuttlecocks. LASHLEY, C. J. W. Nov. 5, 1953 [Nov. 10, 1952], No. 28255/52. Class 132 (3). The skirt of a shuttlecock has a set of vanes radiating in curved paths in one direction and a set of vanes radiating in curved paths in the reverse direction so as to form a lattice work structure, all the vanes having roots around and near to that part of the skirt adjacent the base. In Fig. 2, vanes 1, 1a are superimposed on vanes 2, 2a and all the vanes are secured to a base 8. A modification (Fig. 8, not shown) has vanes of triangular section supported on flat section vanes. The vanes may all be in the same plane (Fig. 7), the vanes 1 having raised ribs 18 to assist spin of the shuttlecock. Some of the lattice spaces may be wholly filled in or provided with ribs (Fig. 3, not shown,), and in Fig. 4 main vanes 10, 11 are provided with secondary vanes 12, 13. In Fig. 5 the trailing end of the skirt is formed as a fringe. The skirt and base 8 may be formed as one piece and may be of nylon or other plastic. According to the Provisional Specification, the vanes may be straight. |
