<p>A steering lock device for a vehicle comprises: a cylinder lock 5 including a key cylinder; a lock bolt 4 for releasably engaging a steering shaft (32, figure 11); a body (2) having an opening portion in one side; a dead lock mechanism; and a cover 3; where the dead lock mechanism includes: a stopper member 23 biased from a release position not engaged with an engagement recess portion 4a of the lock bolt toward a prevention position engaged with the recess; and a trigger rod 21 biased toward the cylinder lock and configured to hold the stopper member at the release position by engaging the stopper member with a rear end portion of the cylinder lock and thus positionally restricting it, where the cover is provided with a hook portion 3b configured to engage with the trigger rod upon removal of the cover from the body and thus move the trigger rod to a not-restricted position where the trigger rod is disengaged from the stopper member. Therefore, should a vehicle theft be attempted by removing the cover of the lock, the stopper member is caused to engage the lock bolt thus providing a deadlock effect.</p> |
