A propulsion apparatus for a ship and a ship having the same are disclosed. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the propulsion apparatus for a ship includes: a rear propeller fixated to a propeller shaft; a front propeller supported in the propeller shaft in front of the rear propeller to be rotated; a reverse rotation device mounted in an installation space at the rear of a hull to reverse the rotation of the propeller shaft to deliver it to the front propeller; a propulsion support device provided on the rear side of the reverse rotation device to protrude from the rear of the hull to the rear side of the hull in order to support the propulsion of the front propeller; a rope guard provided between the rear of the hull and a hub of the front propeller; and at least one reinforcement member to support the rope guard toward the outside of the hull.
