A computer system for hosting electronic group chat is provided. The computer system includes a memory device for storing data and a processor coupled in communication with the memory device. The processor is programmed to electronically host a plurality of chat rooms, associate a first chat room of the plurality of chat rooms with a first element inputted into the computer system, and transmit chat communications between a plurality of users of the chat rooms.

a memory device for storing data; and a processor coupled in communication with the memory device, said processor programmed to:
electronically host a plurality of chat rooms;associate a first chat room of the plurality of chat rooms with a first element inputted into the computer system, wherein the first element comprises one of a task, a task list, a work process, a document, and a record;transmit chat communications between a plurality of users of the chat rooms;selectively link separate conversations in the chat rooms into separate threads;assign, in response to an input from a user of the first chat room, the first element to a user who is not a user of the first chat room; anddisplay chat communications associated with the first element in the first chat room and in association with the first element, wherein a plurality of chat messages of the chat communications are linked in at least one thread.
