The present invention relates to an apparatus for processing an image of a vehicle black box and a method thereof. The present invention provides an apparatus for processing an image of a vehicle black box and a method thereof, wherein the apparatus can reduce the determining time of an encoding mode and efficiently process (store) an image by determining whether to encode in an intra mode or an inter mode an image of a vehicle black box according to the environment (condition) of a road. For this purpose, the apparatus for processing an image of a vehicle black box according to the present invention comprises: an information collecting unit for collecting road information; a mode determining unit for selecting the inter mode when the road is a road outside the city according to the road information collected by the information collecting unit and selecting the intra mode when the road is a road in the city according to the road information; an encoding unit for encoding an image of the black box; and a control unit for controlling the encoding unit for encoding the image of the black box in the encoding mode selected by the mode determining unit. |
