The present invention relates to a cellular wireless communication system and, more particularly, to a method for enabling a terminal to search a base station (cell search), to recognize the state of the base station, to obtain the time and frequency synchronization of the base station, and to measure the intensity of a signal from the base station by defining a discovery signal, to operate a preset base station with a plurality of states like an active state and a dormant state.
