<p>The present invention relates to a system to measure a vehicle distance, and a method thereof to measure an accurate distance to a preceding vehicle during night driving, which measures a distance to the preceding vehicle by utilizing tread information of a predetermined vehicle′s tire. To achieve this, in accordance to an embodiment of the present invention, a system to measure a vehicle distance comprises: an image receiving unit receiving a surrounding image; a database unit storing light source information indicating a position of a vehicle taillight in correspondence to a first light source, and a second light source and car model data in correspondence to the light source information; a control unit extracting a first light source and a second light source matched to the first light source, and recognizing a type of specific vehicle by extracting the light source information corresponding to the first light source, and the second light source to extract car model data in correspondence to the extracted light source information; and a distance measurement unit measuring a distance to the specific vehicle based on the type of specific vehicle recognized through the control unit.</p> |
