A process for the preservation of root-crops during storage comprises the treatment of the crops with a mononitrochlorobenzene together with an insecticide. The preferred substances are mononitrotetrachlorobenzene and gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane. The additives may be mixed with an inert solid carrier such as powdered talc, quartz or kaolin, so that the preparation contains approximately 3 per cent of the mononitrochlorobenzene and 0.1 per cent of the insecticide.
