The present invention relates to a protection circuit for a battery of an electric vehicle and a method thereof, which enables relay control not only with BMS control signal but also with the voltage of a battery by installing an OP AMP inside or outside BMS to maintain the relay control even when the battery for an electric vehicle has high voltage because of abnormal operation or overcharge. The protection circuit for the battery of the electric vehicle according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a high voltage battery which outputs a DC voltage; an inverter which selectively receives the DC voltage from the high voltage battery and inverts the DC voltage into an AC voltage; a relay which selectively blocks the DC voltage from the high voltage battery to the inverter between the high voltage battery and the inverter; a microchip which outputs a mail relay control signal for controlling the relay; and a battery controller which outputs a voltage relay control signal by receiving the DC voltage from the high voltage battery separately from the microchip to control the relay. |
