PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably restrain unstable vibration of a bearing pad.SOLUTION: A bearing device 1 comprises: plural bearing pads 4 having pad surfaces slide-contacting an outer periphery of a rotation shaft 30, and spaced from each other in a circumferential direction; and a support member 3 swingably supporting the bearing pads 4 from an outer peripheral side. A bearing pad 4U positioned above a center of the rotation shaft 30 is provided so that a surface area of the pad surface in an edge direction in front of a support position of the support member 3 is larger than a surface area of the pad surface of an edge direction after the support position, and the support position is offset nearer a rear edge 4r side of the bearing pad 4U in the circumferential direction of the rotation shaft 30 than a center Cp of a bearing sliding face of the bearing pad 4U.
