PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem in a multistage automatic transmission of forward 10 speed stages and the like, that a gear shift may not be achieved so far as a number of engagement elements are shifted.SOLUTION: In a gear shift to prescribed speed stages in which engagement elements to be engaged have a plurality of combinations, for example, to a forth speed stage and seventh speed stage, the combination of the engagement elements of the prescribed speed stage is selected according to the speed stage before the gear shift. In the forth speed stage, one of remaining engagement elements C1, C2, C3, B1 is selected besides a forth clutch C4 and a second brake B2. In the seventh speed stage, three out of the four clutches C1, C2, C3, C4 are selected. |
