PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stopping a fuel battery system and a fuel battery system capable of preventing a damage and deterioration of fuel battery cell due to volume change of a fuel electrode and an air electrode, without impairing ion conductivity of the air electrode.SOLUTION: A method for stopping a fuel battery system includes the steps of: stopping the supply of fuel gas to a fuel electrode side and the supply of oxidant gas to an air electrode side; supplying inert gas to the fuel electrode side after the step of stopping; and supplying oxygen-containing cooling gas to the air electrode side. In the step of supplying the cooling gas, an oxygen amount contained in an atmosphere on the air electrode side is adjusted to 1.0×10mol/s or more and 1.0×10mol/s or less per 1 kW of an output of a cell stack while the temperature of a fuel battery cell is at a predetermined temperature or higher, and an oxygen partial pressure in an atmosphere on the air electrode side is adjusted to 1.0×10atm or more and 1.0×10atm or less when the temperature of the fuel battery cell is below the predetermined temperature. |
