PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the strength of a workpiece while preventing breaking in melt processing by making a temperature gradient gentle by controlling the irradiation position and intensity distribution of light.SOLUTION: There is provided a processing device that improves the strength of a plate-like workpiece by irradiating a surface of the workpiece with light, and includes: a light source which emits light toward the workpiece; a light guide part which guides the light emitted from the light source to irradiate an irradiation position which is a predetermined distance inside from an end face of the workpiece; and an irradiation position moving part which moves the workpiece relatively in a direction perpendicular to the irradiation direction of the light emitted from the light guide part. The light guide part includes intensity conversion means of converting the intensity distribution of the light emitted from the light source so as to make a temperature gradient from the irradiation position to an end face of the workpiece smaller than a temperature gradient from the irradiation position to the inner side. |
