<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium width detector capable of reducing a detection error of a width of a printing medium, and further to provide a printer.SOLUTION: A medium width detector comprises: a movable guide guiding a printing medium P between the movable guide and a first guide in a width direction of the printing medium P and being movable in a first direction such that a guide width between the movable guide and the first guide varies; a slide-type variable resistor 60 having a slider 62 sliding in a second direction being oblique with respect to the first direction; and a fixing member 65 having an engagement section 66 engaged with the slider 62 from one side and being fixed to the movable guide. A slider engagement path causing the slider 62 engaged therewith to slide in the second direction in operative association with movement of the movable guide in the first direction is provided on the engagement section 66.</p> |
