PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power amplification device that allows maintaining high power efficiency even when an input signal using a different modulation method is amplified, and to provide a method of controlling the power amplification device.SOLUTION: A power amplification device includes a Doherty amplifier, a voltage adjustment unit, and a central arithmetic processing unit. The Doherty amplifier amplifies an input signal by a main amplifier and a peak amplifier respectively, and outputs an output signal in which the respective signals after the amplification are synthesized. The voltage adjustment unit supplies a drain voltage and a gate voltage to both the main amplifier and the peak amplifier. The central arithmetic processing unit controls the voltage adjustment unit on the basis of the ratio of the saturation output power of the Doherty amplifier and the average output power of the Doherty amplifier, and causes the voltage adjustment unit to supply the drain voltage and the gate voltage. |
