An apparatus and method for running an application in a mobile terminal are provided. The apparatus includes a display for displaying on a current screen a first object for running a first application corresponding to a type of a touch event and a controller for displaying the first object for running the first application according to the type of the touch event and displaying a second object for running a second application according to a type of a touch event having occurred on the first object while displaying the first object.
