Provided is a capacitor electrode material that can increase the capacitance of an electric double layer capacitor and does not necessitate the use of a conduction auxiliary agent. The capacitor electrode material results from the thermal decomposition of a resin in a composition in which the resin is affixed to graphite or primary flaked graphite by means of grafting or adsorption, and the capacitor electrode material contains a binder resin and a resin-residue-peeling flaked graphite that has a structure in which graphite is peeled locally and in which a portion of the resin remains.
