The present invention relates to the field of communications. Provided are a method and network device for converging a registration area. Provided is a mechanism for converging a user equipment (UE) registration area, enabling a network to adjust and converge the registration area according to the actual condition of the UE, avoiding waste of network resources. The method comprises: within a specified time period, collecting statistics about whether the UE has resided in each basic registration area of the registration area; removing the basic registration areas where the UE has not resided from the registration area to obtain an updated registration area; sending the updated registration area to the UE. The present invention is used for converging a UE registration area.
