The present invention relates to a method and system for controlling a network topology structure. When a second network node acting as a main controller fails, a first network node acting as a backup controller sends a main controller replacement command to another node within a network topology structure, and replaces the second network node to act as the main controller within the network topology structure. When a main controller fails, a backup controller thus acts as the main controller to control a network node within a network topology structure, thereby making the network more reliable.
