[Solution] A method for processing a brittle plate, the method involving a cutting step for forming a cutting line on the surface of the brittle plate by relatively moving a cutter which is pressed against the surface of the brittle plate, and a support member which supports the rear surface of the brittle plate, wherein: the support member contains a flat part which supports a portion of the brittle plate so that said portion is flat, and a defining part which defines the shape of a bending deformation on the brittle plate when the cutter is pressed against a predetermined location on the remaining part of the brittle plate; and in the cutting step, the aforementioned portion of the brittle plate is supported by the flat part so that said portion is flat, and the cutter is pressed against a predetermined location on the remaining part of the brittle plate.
