<p>Provided is a method for producing paper with which it is possible to improve the yield and filterability of a filler. This method for producing paper comprises a step for making paper on wires from a paper material in which a pulp slurry and a filler-containing slurry including a water-soluble polymer are mixed. The water-soluble polymer includes: 100 parts by mass of a cationic polymer obtained by polymerizing monomer components including a cationic vinyl monomer represented by general formula (I) and a nonionic vinyl monomer copolymerizable with said cationic vinyl monomer; and 0.1-2 parts by mass of an anionic polymer that is obtained by polymerizing monomer components including 5-40 mol% of (meth)acrylic acid and/or sodium (meth)acrylate, and that has an intrinsic viscosity of 10 dl/g or greater in a 1 N NaCl aqueous solution at 30°C. The water-soluble polymer or the cationic polymer has an intrinsic viscosity of 8 dl/g or greater in a 1 N NaCl aqueous solution at 30°C.
