Provided are an ammonia decomposition catalyst for use with ammonia exhaust gases of high moisture content, and a purification method thereof. This ammonia decomposition catalyst is used for treatment of ammonia exhaust gases containing moisture, the catalyst including a lower layer having a noble metal, an inorganic oxide, phosphorus, and a first proton-type zeolite or a first ion-exchanged type zeolite having undergone ion exchange with Cu, Co, or Fe ions, and an upper layer arranged over the lower layer, the upper layer having a second proton-type zeolite or a second ion-exchanged type zeolite having undergone ion exchange with Cu, Co, or Fe ions. |
