<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide device having a large manufacturing tolerance, which can be used as a polarization separation element changing over paths for TE (transverse electric) polarization and TM (transverse magnetic) polarization.SOLUTION: The optical waveguide device comprises: a first optical waveguide core 30 including a multimode waveguide part 31 for propagating either one polarization of i-order mode TE polarization and TM polarization, l-order mode TE polarization and the TM polarization, and a Bragg reflection part 33 connected to the multimode waveguide part; and a second optical waveguide core 50 including a coupling part 51. A grating 40 is formed on the Bragg reflection part, which converts the l-order mode of the one polarization into the i-order mode, and Bragg-reflects it to cause the other polarization to transmit therethrough. A bidirectional coupling region 60 is provided in which the multimode waveguide part and the coupling part are arranged apart from each other and aligned with each other. In the bidirectional coupling region, one polarization of the i-order mode propagating through the multimode waveguide part is coupled with one polarization of an m-order mode propagating through the coupling part.</p> |
