PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC motor drive control apparatus capable of improving the control stability of the AC motor.SOLUTION: The AC motor drive control apparatus comprises: an inverter 400; and a rectangular wave voltage controller 300 which controls the voltage phase of a rectangular wave voltage applied to a motor 100 to correspond to a torque command value. The rectangular wave voltage controller 300 comprises a phase guard 330 which sets a voltage phase upper limit &phgr;v3 for limiting the relation between a torque and a voltage phase within a monotonous increase range. The phase guard 330 calculates a phase difference α by using the electric angular rate ωe of the motor 100 under operation, setting the voltage phase upper limit &phgr;v3 to be &pgr;/2-|α| while the motor is in power running and to be &pgr;/2+|α| while the motor is in regeneration.
