Provided is a magnetic disk-use substrate for which foreign matter does not remain on a magnetic layer of main surfaces subsequent to film formation. A magnetic disk-use substrate is provided with first inclined surfaces formed outside main surfaces of the substrate, second inclined surfaces which connect the first inclined surfaces with sidewall surfaces of the substrate, and ridges formed by the first inclined surfaces and the second inclined surfaces. The ridges are provided more to the inner side of the thickness direction of the substrate than the main surfaces.
