PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and safe method for manufacturing a positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries which enables the achievement of a higher-level balance between thermal stability and charge/discharge capacity, and which is superior in cycle characteristics.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries comprises: a crystallization step for producing a nickel-containing hydroxide expressed by the general formula NiCoM(OH)by adding an alkali aqueous solution to a mix aqueous solution containing at least nickel and cobalt to cause the crystallization thereof; a mixing step for mixing the resultant nickel-containing hydroxide with a lithium compound and a niobium compound into a lithium mixture; and a sintering step for sintering the lithium mixture at a temperature of 700-820°C in an oxidative atmosphere to produce a lithium transition metal complex oxide. |
