An apparatus for detecting objects beside and behind a vehicle is disclosed. The apparatus for detecting objects beside and behind a vehicle according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a first supersonic sensor arranged to detect an object beside a vehicle among an object beside the vehicle and an object behind the side of the vehicle and outputting a detection signal corresponding to the existence of an object and a distance from the object; a second supersonic sensor arranged to detect an object behind the side of a vehicle among an object beside the vehicle and an object behind the side of the vehicle and outputting a detection signal corresponding to the existence of an object and a distance from the object; and an electronic control unit for determining a region where a counterpart vehicle is placed among a plurality of regions beside and behind based on the combination of the detection signal of the first supersonic sensor and the detection signal of the second supersonic sensor, and determining the position of the counterpart vehicle based on the determined region.
