<p>The invention relates to an expansion head (1) for expansion tools for hollow workpieces, in particular for the ends of pipes made of plastics and of metals covered with plastics, the expansion head (1) comprising: a union cap (2) having a guide flange (6) directed radially inward; a set of sector-shaped expandable expansion jaws (4), which are each guided individually by an inner flange sector (5), which overlaps the guide flange (6), and a radial groove (11), so as to be movable radially on the guide flange (6), wherein the set of expansion jaws (3) is movable between a closed position and an expanded position, and the expansion jaws (3) are bounded on the inner side thereof by conical segment surfaces (9) which, in the closed state of the expansion head (1), supplement one another to form a conical surface; and an adapter element (4) which is accommodated in the union (2), is conical and can be moved in the axial direction, wherein the cone angle of the adapter element (4) corresponds to the opening angle (β) of the conical segment surfaces (9), and wherein the adapter element (4) is bounded on the inner side thereof by a further conical surface (15), wherein the opening angle (α) of the conical surface (15) on the inner side of the adapter element (4) is smaller than the opening angle (β) formed by the conical segment surfaces (9) on the inner side of the expansion jaws (3).
