The present invention is to provide a plating apparatus which prevents an occurrence of defects on a surface of a plating steel sheet, and a plating method. The plating apparatus comprises: a plating bath; a gas wiping means arranged outside the plating bath supplying gas to the plating steel sheet; a sealing chamber blocking a part of the plating steel sheet with air, where a lower surface is opened inside the plating bath and the gas wiping means is arranged inside; and a cooling means arranged on an upper part from the chamber, cooling the plating steel sheet.
