<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent compound which excels in its solubility in organic solvents and its compatibility with resins or prepolymers and monomers, particularly the compatibility with silicone resins and can produce a resin composition by a simple method and a fluorescent resin composition containing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The fluorescent compound is represented by formula (1) [wherein X is -O- or -NR-; R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>is a group selected from a hydrocarbon group and a group of formula (2); R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>is a group selected from hydrogen, a hydrocarbon group, a group of formula (2), an organoxycarbonyl group, a diorganocarbamoyl group, a cyano group and a group of formula (3); R<SP POS="POST">3</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">5</SP>, and R<SP POS="POST">6</SP>are each a group selected from hydrogen, a hydrocarbon group and groups of formulae (2), (4), (5), and (6); at least one of R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">3</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>, R<SP POS="POST">5</SP>, and R<SP POS="POST">6</SP>is a group of formula (2) or a group containing the same; and R is a hydrocarbon group]. Since the fluorescent compound does not contain a hetero element-hydrogen bond which comes to a hydrogen bond donor, excels in the compatibility with organic solvents and resins, and can be uniformly dispersed in various media, a fluorescent resin composition having high transparency, lightness, and chroma can be easily obtained.
