Vulcanized rubber is regenerated by heating the comminuted material, to which softeners may be added, in an apparatus comprising a feed hopper 9 and a cylinder 2 through which the material is advanced by a hollow screw 1. The cylinder is heated to about 220‹-240‹C. by a liquid (e.g. oil or glycerol) having a boiling point of, or greater than, 270‹C. The liquid is in a tank 4 around the cylinder which is heated by burners 5, and is also fed by pipes 7, 8 to the inside of the screw 1.</p> |
