A liquid crystal display device preventing reflection of light at positions of a through hole connection (181h) of a thin film transistor ({124h, 140, 154h, 173h, 175h}) to the pixel electrode (191h) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided. The display device according to an exemplary embodiment includes: a substrate (110); a thin film transistor ({124h, 140, 154h, 173h, 175h}); a pixel electrode (191h, 191l); a light blocking member (225) formed on the pixel electrode (191h) to overlap the thin film transistor ({124h, 140, 154h, 173h, 175h}) and to cover a through hole connection (181h) of the pixel electrode (191h) to the thin film transistor ({124h, 140, 154h, 173h, 175h}), the light blocking member (225) being formed on the viewer side of the pixel electrode (191h) opposite to the side facing the thin film transistor ({124h, 140, 154h, 173h, 175h}); a common electrode (270) formed above and spaced apart from the pixel electrode (191h, 191l) with a matrix of liquid crystal microcavities (305) interposed therebetween; a roof layer (360) formed on top of the common electrode (270); a respective injection hole (307a, 307b) exposing a portion of each microcavity (305); a liquid crystal material (310) filling each microcavity (305); and an encapsulation layer (390) formed on the roof layer (360) and sealing the injection holes (307a, 307b), wherein the light blocking member (225) and the through hole connections (181h) are formed in an area of valleys (V1) between the microcavities (305) . |
