[Class 80 (iii)] Relates to screw-and-nut gearing and particularly that used in vehicle steering mechanism, in which a half-nut engages the screw-thread and is connected by a lever to the part to be actuated. According to the invention the half-nut is both slidably and pivotally supported by a guide member arranged parallel with the axis of the screw. A short screw a connected to the steering shaft is mounted in a housing b and is engaged by a half-nut c connected by a ball h and groove j with an arm d on the rock-shaft e. For guiding the nut, it is provided with a boss f bored to slide over a fixed rod g. The half-nut may be adjusted for backlash by a screw k in the cover m bearing axially on the shaft e. |
