A security document such as a banknote comprises a substrate in fibrous material 1 having two opposite recto 11 and verso 12 sides; each side being coated with a protective coating 21, 22 and a layer 3 of adhesive between each of the two coatings 21, 22 and the said substrate 1; the layer of adhesive includes at least one area of strong adhesion 32 and at least one area of weak adhesion 31 between each of the said coatings 21, 22 and the said substrate 1. The strong adhesion areas are preferably obtained by heating the adhesive to a higher temperature than the weak adhesion areas. Preferably a composition such as an ink is applied to the substrate between areas of strong adhesion on the two sides of the substrate. |
