<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus 10 that appropriately cleans a secondary transfer roller 35, and reduces standby time to improve FCOT. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 10 of the present invention includes: an intermediate transfer body 21 to which a toner image formed on an image carrier 1Y-1K is transferred; a secondary transfer body 35 that transfers the toner image on the intermediate transfer body 21 to a recording material S; cleaning means 40 that removes unnecessary attached substances brought from the intermediate transfer body 21 onto the secondary transfer body 35; and a control unit 14 that causes the cleaning means 40 to operate.
