A printer converts a document from its native file format into an image representation printable by the printer. A document is provided to the printer in a native file format (e.g., a word processing, spreadsheet, or presentation format) that is editable by a document-processing application. A page representation of each of page of the document to be printed is determined. Each page representation (which includes a plurality of graphics primitives) may be determined straight from the native file format of the document independent of an intermediate page description language (PDL). From each page representation, an image representation (e.g., a bitmap) is determined based on the plurality of graphics primitives. At least one page of the document is printed based on the determined image representations. |
